Nordea and Handelsbanken have to pay penalty for missing control on money laundering – Aftenposten

Also Handelsbanken must pay for failing routines, writes the Swedish news agency TT.

While Nordea must pay 50 million, must Handelsbanken with 35 million Swedish kronor. 50 million is the maximum penalty fee Finansispektionen can provide banks, writes TT.

– Nordea has had major flaws in their efforts to combat money laundering. This means that those who have chosen to money laundering or financing terrorism in all probability have been able to do it without that Nordea has been able to detect it, writes Finansispektionen in its avgörande.

About Handelsbanken they write:

– Brisbane Tene is significant and means that Handelsbanken has run a high risk of being exploited by individuals to launder funds or finance terrorism.

Sanction fees are related to the Swedish operations and has nothing with the Norwegian banking activities to do.
