– Not mine, but their fathers have fought for the freedom we have today. But I’ll fight with you – against all those who want to take from us freedom: freedom of speech, democracy, equality, said Raja of speech.
– No, people like me were not here to stand up against Nazis, but many like me are here now to stand up to the Islamists – with you. Nobody can threaten us into silence, he continued.
Freedom and contemplation
Falstad was prison camp for poltiske prisoners and was created by the German security police in 1941.
– A celebration day on 17 May should allow to reflect also of the horrors that happened, although we primarily today should rejoice. Rejoice in the freedom that many were tortured in an attempt to win back, said Raja, and continued:
According to Raja, the idea of freedom us today joy and a warm feeling, while Falstad prisoners enough assosiserte freedom with completely different feelings.
– Any expression prisoners here gave of freedom, was turned strongly downwards. Feeling freedom was forbidden. Feeling freedom was hurt.
Quoted Falstad prisoner
Left politician quoted from a poem by Falstad-prisoner Odd Lie, which deals inter alia longing for freedom:
– It is important to note how beautiful freedom is for those who do not feel it. But freedom must not be a dream. It should be realized, experienced and it should be lived out. And it is our common duty to fight for this, said Raja.
He pointed out that he himself was an outspoken person, and that several of Falstad prisoners was precisely such types:
– In an era often could save himself and his family by keeping silent, many chose to fight for their deepest needs, even if you knew what it horrible SS system was able, said Liberal politician.
– honorably
Raja became the first Muslim who spoke at Falstad, and said that he stood “with a sea of emotions.”
– Especially it is also that I, in proximity to this cruel prison camp, where Muslims most likely have had to pay with his life, I have been told, can stand and speak freely to you, said parliamentary representative.
– A unthinkable and even perhaps absurd thought for a Muslim just 70 years ago. That is also why an honorable mission to have the opportunity to share some thoughts with you, let Raja to.
