Referendum underway in Greece – HegnarOnline

Almost 10 million Greeks may vote between the hours of 7 (6 Norwegian time) and 19. Tens of people were Sunday morning queued outside schools and universities were turned into polling stations.

– I vote ” No “because I think it’s better for the country. About we vote ‘no’, they will take us more seriously. I vote not for myself but for my grandchildren’s future, said 80-year Michelis, who were first in the door of one of the schools central Athens.

Europe holds its breath while waiting for the results of the referendum. A clear picture will only get round the clock 21 local time Sunday night.

Recent polls before the election showed that it is virtually a dead heat between pro- and neisiden. Yes side has a slim lead in most polls, but experts say it is too early to say anything about the outcome.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and his government, which came to power six months ago, has greatly urged people to say “no” to the creditors’ suggestions, which both creditors and several leading politicians have dissuaded. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has said that a local majority can led to Greece must leave the euro zone, a so-called “Grexit”.

Finance Yanis Varoufakis warned Friday that if the people say yes to creditors requirements, it can be over and out for Greece’s leftist government.

– Agreement on Monday
Regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s referendum, says Varoufakis that he expects to land an agreement with the international creditors Monday.

– I expect that we will have an agreement Monday. And it will be independent of the majority votes “yes” or “no” in the referendum, he said to the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung Saturday.

Euro Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis stated that the question Greeks to vote on, neither is real or legally correct, and pointed out that the votes of a loan program which has now expired.

– Do not listen to those who say that the offer is no longer valid. Of course it still does it, because that’s what they want, says the Greek finance minister.

Varoufakis also claimed Friday in an interview with television channel RTL that the ongoing negotiations with creditors behind the scenes. Euro Manager Jeroen Dijsselbloem dismissed as the allegation that lie.

Saturday stockpiled Greeks both money and food for fear that the economy of the country could collapse.

In the capital Athens were Greeks set nudge end to overflowing shopping carts or coming out of shops with heavy shopping bags in their hands. In stores were sugar, flour and pasta torn from the shelves.

– Most people buy food now because they fear the worst, said 51 years old Andreas Koutras, who works in the financial sector.

At the same time several Greeks living overseas, landed at the airport in Athens. They must in fact go home to Greece if they will vote.

– I’m just here to vote, says Kostas Kokkinos, a 60 year old Greek living in Cyprus.
