New figures from the Nav – Beautiful weather

Unemployment increases by oil decline, but less on Haugalandet than sørfylket

HAUGESUND: Unemployment has increased in the past year, from extremely low 2.1 percent in June last year, to 3.1 percent in June this year. This represents an increase of 55 percent. Most of the growth comes from south-county. In June Nav in Rogaland in the notification of 1607 redundancies and 763 laid off.

– Essentially, these from companies and businesses closely related to oil, gas, and the supply, but we now see that the construction industry and service industry is less activity, and therefore must go to the step to terminate or lay off people, victory Truls Nordahl.

Unemployment is highest among young men, aged between 25 -29 years.

– It draws up a challenging picture as we see more seeking work goes without a job for over six months, and that youth unemployment has increased by 42 percent in the last year, says Nordahl.

Haugesund has increased 31 percent from June last year, making it the towns that increases at least. Still with the county’s highest unemployment rate of 4.1 percent. Karmøy has 3.3 percent unemployment. Construction, industrial services and engineering and ICT subjects are occupational groups with the highest unemployment.

Merethe P. Haftorsen, manager of Nav Haugesund, explains the difference in the unemployment growth with the business sector in the Stavanger region an even greater extent than Haugesund is linked to the oil industry.

– We have noted the decline in the oil industry, but not as much as Stavanger and south-county, says Haftorsen.

Haftorsen can add that Stavanger region also had greater decline in job vacancies than North Rogaland.

On a national basis is Finnmark counties around the Oslo Fjord and Vest-Agder with higher unemployment than Rogaland. The national average is 2.8 percent.
