three scientists have looked at the relationship between activity in the export industry and physical and mental health problems among employees, writes Politiken.

They found that when a company increases exports by 10 percent, working employees several hours, leading to 14 percent increase in absenteeism for men and 24 percent increase for women.

– the results show that there are real consequences when you give people too much to do, says economics professor Jakob Roland Munch at Copenhagen University.



Employers must decide

Along with two American scientists, he has investigated about 150,000 Danish employees a year for 12 years.

– If a company suddenly has a full order books and will produce more, the employer must ask themselves whether to get the staff to work more or staff several people, says Munch.

Working Researcher Hans Jørgen Limborg says that increased production today is primarily achieved by the employees work longer and harder.
