Ole Robert Reitan, ceo of Norway’s largest retail chain, has announced that he will introduce major changes in a meeting 4. January.
A major advertising campaign for a new concept of the cinematic teaser trailer “Æ” has gained momentum speculation, writes Dagens Næringsliv (requires subscription).
In a strategy that has been called bestevennstrategien, Rema has announced that the company will cooperate more closely with a smaller number of selected vendors and terminate the relationship with the other, writes the newspaper.
Reitan claimed last fall that the Rema was attacked from all sides and that the other chains had better purchasing terms than them, as a result of that, the Rema went from being the second-largest in the Norwegian retail market to third place behind Norgesgruppen and Coop. Rema-the boss thought then that they need to offer some suppliers a greater place to get better conditions.

Kims out
It is currently unclear which providers will notice the most to strategiendringen, but the newspaper It reported in December that the Rema skviser out Orklas brand Kims for the benefit of Maarud (requires subscription).
– It is correct that some of the products from the Kims are out of Rema, says Orklas executive vice president, communications Håkon Mageli, to DN.
He did not want to comment further whether the merkevareleverandøren is affected.
Torkild Nordberg, previously head of Orkla Brands who now is a partner in the rådgivningsselskapet XO Executive Advisors, believe that many suppliers face a difficult trade-off when they are invited over at the Rema bestevennmodell.
In practice, those who choose to be with, risking having to give up full distribution in all chains, he believes.
– For some, a bestevennposisjon be right, but the danger of having only one customer, or one very dominant customer, is that you get to an exposed position over time.

– to Improve our purchasing terms
Rema 1000 say they are satisfied with the outcome of the autumn negotiations.
– We have made good progress on the journey where we improve our purchasing terms and the customer still can get the lowest prices with us. Our customers will experience various changes throughout the year, and first and foremost get new and exciting products that can only be bought at Rema 1000, enter the company’s managing director for the Retail category and procurement, Lars Kristian Lindberg, in an email to DN.
In august of last year signed the Rema 1000 and Southampton brewery with an exclusive agreement, which allows Retail stores are the only grocery stores that sell beer from the London brewery.
Rema also went into the ownership of nettdagligvarebutikken Colonial.no.
