Not for those who want to sell mobile again
The big difference in the above table is that you never want to own your phone if you choose to replace it when it has gone 12 months Telenor SWAP. Thus, you lose the chance to sell it or use it as a secondary phone. To keep the phone you will have to pay it down in 24 months. As you can see in the table below, this is very expensive.
Is it provided that you do not need an ownership of your phone, you can actually save some hundred pounds in total during a year.
But if we take the factor that you actually get to keep the phone for an inheritance in the other two options, the calculation will be different. Buyer For example, an iPhone 6S yourself and find the cheapest mobile subscription, you pay 902 million more compared to Swap package to Telenor. The difference though is that you own the phone with the former option, and can earn several thousand crowns by selling it again.
Telenor SWAP other words cheaper if you disregard the resale value of your phone after a year, but total set will lose money if you take everything into account – given that you actually sell the phone after a year. For example, you could sell an gently used iPhone to several thousand crowns on the used market, which you can use on your next mobile.
Vast differences at 24 months
Telenor’s new SWAP service is obviously aimed at those who like to change phones frequently. But what if you actually want to own the phone by paying it down completely?
Below is the corresponding table like the one above, but now we have included the cost of paying down the phone via SWAP, and simultaneously added to the cost of subscription to the various options for a total of 24 months.
This is an example, and depends on the prices of various subscriptions and prices of phones remain at their current level.
This costs you to have phone + subscription for 24 months:
Prices including 5GB -abb for 24 months | Apple iPhone 6S 64GB | Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge 32GB | Huawei Mate 8 | Sony Xperia X | Will keep the phone |
Telenor SWAP including Freedom 5GB | 20 112, – | 18 432, – * | 16 512, – | 15 552, – *
ICE with partial payment of mobile | 15 576, – | 13 176, – | 11 976, – | 12 576, –
Best online price on the phone with cheapest 5GB subscription | 13 466, – | 12 966, – | 11 266, – | 11 761, – |

As you can see from the table above, there is little point in going for Telenor SWAP if you choose to pay down the phone fully. Certainly, you will keep your phone at 24 months, on an equal footing as you get with ICE after a year, and so will the resale value no longer play any major role.
Nevertheless, you can see that much of the price difference is because you pay down your phone over an additional 12 months. But subscription rate starts taking its toll on the total.
While you pay 399 kroner per month of Freedom Package with 5GB data with Telenor costs corresponding packet 299 million in ICE and 249 million in Chili Mobile.
