Bad weather
So, it was not. Friday is still the helicopter on the helidekket on the platform.
No one has come to or from the platform since Monday as the helicopter was blocking the landing site.
the Error should be rectified, but the tests that should be done has not been completed because of bad weather. It is of course reassuring that helikopterselskapet take all precautions and make the necessary testing, but it is also a shame for the crew who have received an involuntary stay on the installation, ” says Morten Eek in Statoil, to BA Friday morning.
There are now 125 people on board Kvitebjørn, which is about a 55 minute flight from Flesland. The helicopter stuck, had brought the crew from several other installations before it would pick up some from the Kvitebjørn and fly to Bergen. There were 21 people on board when it was stuck.
– the Goal is to have flown the crew to land as soon as possible. The weather has put a stop to the testing, and then we get a nor carried them away in a different way than to wait until the helicopter is ready for departure, ” says Eek.

Normal operation
the Error occurred on Monday, and on Tuesday came a mechanic from CHC to Kvitebjørn. No one has come to or from the platform since Monday.
as of now, there is no way to get to or from the platform. We do not personellforflytning with the boat, and it is also not something we are considering now. The weather is too bad in the area, but we have received signals that it will ease into the weekend. The operation on board goes as normal with the crew that’s there, but it is obviously boring for those who do not come home, ” says Morten Eek.
He is unsure of how many flights that have been cancelled to and from Kvitebjørn. The bug on the helicopter he will not comment on.
CHC must answer for what was wrong with the helicopter, what tests are remaining and whether they are flying directly to Bergen or to another installation when it is ready, ” says Eek.
“It is important for us that helikopterselskapet do thorough tests, but now we are hoping that the helicopter comes out from the installation as soon as possible,” he adds.
oil leak in the gearbox
the Managing director of CHC helikopter Service, Arne Roland, says to BA that it showed an indication of oljetrykksfall in the machine when it flew in to Kvitebjørn on Monday.
It was found an oil leak in a filter on the gearbox which had to be remedied. On Tuesday came the mechanics of the installation and corrected the error, but because of the weather we have not been carried out required tests, ” says Roland.
He said the helicopter must fly up and land again and checked again before it is had and can be flown further. If it fly directly to Bergen or via a different installation that has several helideck, has not taken a position yet.
– How to see you on this event?
In accordance with our procedures and manuals, we have rectified the error. Then we will do investigations to find the underlying causes of the leak. This we need help from the manufacturer, and we will send the necessary information to the factory in the USA to get assistance from there. This is an event that gets our full attention, ” says Roland to the BA.
of good cheer
He is not aware of similar failures on this helicopter type, but does not rule out that it may have happened other places.
– It should be factory help to find out of, ” he says.
He says that CHC has enough machines to discontinue helikoptertrafikken without this machine. On the Kvitebjørn now sit two pilots and two mechanics from his company.
– They are in good spirits and having a good time on board, ” says Roland. He says they aim at an opening in the storm in the afternoon to get carried out the necessary testing.
Roland emphasizes that this event can’t be seen in the context of halerotorfeilen happened on the scottish continental shelf at the end of December. 13 of the company’s 14 Sikorsky helicopters are reviewed after the event.
Was set on the ground
Earlier this week, it became known that all Sikorsky helicopters should be reviewed in an inspection following an incident in romjulen. Where he cut a helicopter hole in the landingsplattformen on the West Franklin platform in the scottish continental shelf when it was going to land.
the Incident led to Sikorsky sent out the message that all helicopters of the same type should be inspected before the next flight. It led to delays in helikoptertrafikken to and from the north Sea on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Morten Eek in Statoil says to BA that they have now received notification that all of the Sikorsky machines are examined without finding fault with.
