Unemployed coach back faith in themselves – Aftenposten

– No warning, nothing. November 16, last year I went out the door of the workplace for the last time. Dismissed, says Lill Christin Salty.

At the end of March, 85,471 persons were registered as unemployed with the Nav. This is 5800 more than the same time last year, and equivalent to 3.1 percent of the workforce. Unemployment is highest in Rogaland with 4.7 percent.

– No one who has not been in a termination process, understand how tough experience is. That someone takes such an important choice for you, taking from your work, does not feel right. There is zero consolation in that we have many people who lose their jobs, says Lille Christin Salty, who has worked in the oil industry in Stavanger. As unemployed she felt inept and began to doubt their own competence.

She was advised to use its network and social media to tell that she was free to the job market. Deliberately she let it be. Instead priority she exercise.

Pondering the future

Lill Christin Salty run intervals in the 306 steps leading up to Hanafjellet, a few kilometers away Sandnes center. Personal coach, Tone Lise Stokkelandsvannet, leads the way, closely followed by Anne Lise Jensen, who lost his job in January this year.

– home I often sit and ponder over what the future brings. Community, being out in the fresh air and feel that my body works, gives immense pleasure. The training is medicine, says Anne Lise Jensen and offers the following advice to others who find themselves in the same situation:

Exercise! Find a gang, training environments leads to contacts that expand your network. Get up early in the morning, get out. Try something you have not done before. Do not worry that you are in bad shape. You can always find someone on your own level.

Training for unemployed

Tone Lise Stokkelandsvannet manage multiple weekly trainings. She knows all too well how it feels to be sidelined.

– One morning I did not feel out of bed. Too much of anything, for too long, swallowed forces. Diagnosis: Anxiety and depression. I started training, took the time to help and came back on track.

She was so inspired by his own success that she studied to become a personal trainer and has had his own business in a year’s time. Now establishes her own training sessions during the day, suited for the unemployed. All sessions take place out in the community.

A few days ago finally got Lill Christin Salty new job.

– I know so many people who are unemployed that I dared to share the joy with others. I was super happy job but got just plain bad conscience, she says.

Major inequalities in health

Professor of Sociology at NTNU, Terje Andreas Eikemo, researching social inequalities, that is what that makes some healthier than others and why some expect to live longer than others. He is keen to look at different parts of the population, by education, knowledge, economy and trade.

Along with researchers Steinar Krokstad and Christoffer Holseter has eikemo looked at the health status of unemployed:

People without jobs, with low education and poor economy has on average poorer health than those with better economy, but do not complain more of their health than what gifted do.

– When comparing groups of people, always the with high education and high income have better health than those with low income and low education. Here there is no talk about the differences between those who have high and low, but also differences between those who have the most and second most. Such is unfortunately the natural law, but we are constantly working to find out what can help reduce inequalities in society as a whole, he says, and continues:

– To be unemployed in itself, is not necessarily cause of poor health, but those who have poor health are more likely to be unemployed.

– What should the unemployed do to cope best?

– I believe that work is the most important single factor in good mental and physical health. To feel the benefit is an important human need. Be among people. Loneliness is perhaps even more dangerous than smoking. Participate in training groups, not necessarily to get in top shape, but to be with others. Should you later stop exercising, you will still recognize them as you trained with, that will long-term effects have positive consequences for the network. If people are afraid to be involved in training groups because they believe that the form is not good enough, they should think that the physical part is not important. Where one meets people show also unexpected opportunities up.

Norwegians live longer in recessions

Venke Furre Haaland, postdoctoral fellow at the University of Stavanger, together with Kjetil Telle at Statistics Norway researched what happens to the population of recession. Their study is based on the population in Norway between 1977 and 2008.

Many fear that more people become incapacitated when unemployment rises. But the opposite happens for the population as a whole.

– The study shows that when unemployment rises by one percentage point, reduced mortality in population by 0.5 percent. This coincides with studies from other countries, such as America and Europe. The cause of that mortality declines during recessions, researchers know little about, but suggested explanations is that in good times stressed more, work more and live more unhealthy.
