– If you go here, it’s a nice workout. 15 minutes, so I’m done with it, because it is so intensive, says Christin Riise.
She is on Christmas holidays in Bergen. Usually she lives in toad flat Denmark. Then it is good to know the city’s most popular uphill immediately one is home.
– I work at a travel agency in Denmark and sells trips to Bergen. I am talking so hot I can about Stoltz and Mt. customers, said Riise.
Right in town
– It’s great that it is right in town too. Had I not lived in Lindas, I had been here more often, says his friend Jan Olav Eidsnes.
They are both on their second trip up Stoltz year. But some have visited the stairs very frequent in years. For the visit as Bergen has registered has been enormous.
Numbers and calculations show that within the year is will Stoltz have had 400.000 passages. 86 percent of the visitors have gone up. But then not all year round with. Heat sensor that was set up by wooden staircase was placed there on 6 February this year.
On average, over 1,200 people made the trip in Stoltz daily. The most popular months were April, May and September.
– The use of year is smoother than expected. I imagined that the fall, especially in September, would highlight stronger, says byfjellsforvalter Jan Robert Brandsdal.
It is perhaps not so surprising that the weather is crucial for visitor numbers.
– Days with very bad weather we turn out the number of visitors. Absence of snow and ice also means a lot, says Brandsdal.
Early upstairs
Many people take morning workout on the stairs.
– The first is usually up 06.00. The last recorded between 22.00 and 23.00. In summer it can occasionally be some earlier by 05 o’clock and some as late as midnight, said Brandsdal.
And here comes more about peoples Stoltz habits:
Have been up 700 times
One of those who contributed most to good numbers in Stoltz Bente Gjesteland (67). She is the one that probably has been Stoltz most times in a year. Christmas Eve she had been there 700 times.
– I’ve been looking forward to every trip, I said Gjesteland.
At the beginning of the year she set a goal of 500 trips. But in September she was in goal. She had, however, acquired a taste for more.
– I’ve heard of one that had gone up Stoltz 615 times in a year. The record I wanted to beat, says Gjesteland, who has logged all trips its in a separate book.
It is not unusual that she take the trip up three times a day.
– If I can inspire people, it’s just fun, says the lusty lady.
Used almost around the clock
Haakon Svendal in Varegg has helped to arrange Stoltzekleiven Up in 36 years and know a lot about Stoltz.
– I doubt that anyone else has taken so many trips up on one year. I’m almost 100 percent sure she has the record says Svendal.
He has followed developments in Stoltz, who in the past decade a growing number of followers.
– It has been a very change in the use of Stoltz and it grew from the people, says Svendal.
Five years ago there were not many who used Stoltz after it was dark and it almost only the who ran with contests that had headlamp
– Now all kinds of people up there with the headlamps to 22- 23 in the evening throughout the year. As long as there is no ice in Stoltz, so people go there, says Svendal.
