- Telenor may be punished in the USA – Fædrelandsvennen

The Swedish prosecutors state that US authorities can prosecute in Vimpelcom case already 20 August this year. It comes from a legal record from Stockholm court of class struggle has been given access to.

This means that US investigators believe they can prove that a criminal offense has taken place in connection with Telenor-owned VimpelCom’s acquisition of telecom licenses in Uzbekistan . Since VimpelCom is listed in the US, the company is subject to US anti-corruption rules and may be convicted in a US court.

Beate Sjåfjell, professor of corporate law at the University of Oslo, says that an indictment in the United States will be an embarrassing affair for Telenor.

– It emphasizes the seriousness of the matter and puts Telenor Board silence and lack of reaction to the CEO in an even more glaring light, she says.

Six Telenor peaks, among them CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas, has claimed class struggle processed payments now being investigated as bribes. (© NTB)
