The insurance industry asks Greece tourists not to listen to advice bunkering euro in … – Aftenposten

The insurance industry strongly warns against following the advice from travel companies and banks to bring additional euros in cash at this year Greece holiday.

– Those who take on Greece vacation with his pockets full of euro banknotes runs a great risk, said Deputy Information Officer Emma Elisabeth Vennesland in European insurance.

At the largest player in the insurance shakes one to the head of the recommendations of ia Star Tour and Nordea. They believe that one of the best ways to avoid bank problems in Greece in the summer is to carry additional euros in cash from home.

– Do not do it, says European that ask people pursue short.

Poor security at many hotels

The reason for this caution is the risk of thefts:

– Norwegians lit up like lighthouses abroad, and we are well known for very good economy. It makes us more vulnerable to thefts. Will be stripped of cash on city or hotel room, covering annual travel insurance maximum 3,000 kroner (340 euros) per person, and NOK 6,000 for a family. Therefore, we strongly caution against taking the large amount of banknotes to Greece. Many hotels lacking safe and it makes it no less risky to store cash in the room, says Vennesland.

Also at Gouda Insurance warns damage chief Eli Knudtzen Myhre against it to carry extra cash can mean a greater economic loss risk for the individual.

Fears Greek bankruptcy

The fear that the country will go “bankrupt” now due to the enormous loan obligations to be met in the summer. Unable to land it can Greece eventually had to give up the euro as currency. This in turn could create panic and get its citizens to empty their bank accounts and ATMs.

– Although for many years has been the economic turmoil in Greece, this has little impact tourists. There has been money at ATMs in major cities and on islands, and it has previously not been a need to bring large amounts of cash, says Vennesland.

Consumer Economics Elin Reitan Nordea believes that additional Cash may be the solution for those who fear that the ATMs will go empty:

Cash well as insurance

– Yes, I think you should bring cash, but not excessive amounts. Amounts that enables you could live in a period of one should not get access to cash, I think may be appropriate. Man also comes far by credit card. But it’s not everywhere you get paid by card and therefore I believe it is wise to have some cash on hand, she says.

At Star Tour’s information officer Mathias Bergendahl agree:

– We get a lot of requests of customers who will be traveling to Greece this summer on the consequences of the crisis in the country. Those who have booked all inclusive, is not affected, but for those planning outings and perhaps will dine out, there is an idea to have extra cash, he said.

Apollo: – Avoid panic

At Apollo asks communications consultant Beatriz Rivera Norwegian tourists not to panic:

– Neither bankruptcy or a possible “Grexit” will have no immediate impact on tourists in Greece. The euro is still a valid value, and you can still pay by credit card in most places. It may be wise to bring some extra cash, but then also not to bring too much, she says.

The marketing and communications director Tonje Fossum Loka in Ving are right now in Crete, and this mailer modest home to Aftenposten readers:

– I’m in Crete now and here there is nothing to suggest any crisis! It is good to withdraw money from ATMs and it is also nice to pay both short- and cash, she writes.

Earlier this year, advancing Greek authorities out and recommended tourists to pay with card as far as practicable, to prevent the possibility of tax evasion among hotel and restaurant owners in the country.
