Take, et gap year! – Aftenposten

Take, et gap year! – Aftenposten

(Stockholm :) Many fear that a hole in your CV will ruin your chances of getting your dream job. But a stay in his career is not necessarily a disadvantage for the aiming peak positions. On the contrary it may be an advantage. It believes several headhunters who work with adding CEOs and other heavy items.

– We think it’s very interesting to meet people who take responsibility for themselves and their own welfare and that has discouraged to take themselves out of hverdagsloopen one can easily end up in if you do not reflect on their position, says Maria Eriksson, CEO of Poolia Executive Search.

Risk: The network is gone

– Our recommendation is that if you do not know what you’re passionate about, so it’s amazing wise to take a timeout.

But there may be some risk factors also by taking a sabbatical. Eriksson mentions as examples the risk of losing contact its web or to miss developments in the industry.

– But we believe that the value of taking a sabbatical is so great that it outweighs the disadvantages, she says .

That headhunters speaks warmly about the Sabbath is because they expect career hunters fit to do anything other than lie in the sun bed when they take a break. To explain why one has taken a break and left a hole in your CV is important.

To get an opportunity to become better acquainted with himself, considered to be positive for leadership, according to several headhunters .

Parental leave without children

Erelong replace one of Fiskars CEOs, Per Sjödell, as head towards studies and a year in Morocco.

– Is one security junkie I do not think this is the right thing to do, he said.

He has worked to reorganize Finnish Fiskars operations in Sweden. Now the job is done, and Per Sjödell been restless. Instead of the rush to the next job, he decided to take a break in his career.

– It was something I and my husband talked about, that it might be good to take a break . We have not had the natural disruption as many others have when they have children. But we decided to take the “parental leave without children”, in the form of a sabbatical, he said.

The couple moves to Marrakech in Morocco where they already own a house. During the one-year stay, they have decided to decline all offers from headhunters may come. Completely free will not. Sjödell going to retain some control assignments, including for Lindex. But he believes many would have benefited to get away from work.

Generational

Headhunters think career stay common future. While previous generations have seen it as a stigma that no worker continuation will 70s and 80s generations look at it differently.

– My hypothesis is that it is becoming more and more common to take a longer break. The young are more self-confident and trust that they get a new job when they return. This is something employers and headhunters must get used to, says Fredrik Hillelson, CEO of Novare.

He is not quite as positive sabbaticals.

– If there is an advantage depends of what industry you are in. Some industries are more conservative than others, he said.

A company would like to see for a CEO who has stamina and is ready to remain in firm long. Whoever quickly becomes restless and go out of the country, risking not getting the trust needed to get the heaviest records.
