Tobacco Andresen bald Oil Fund ethics management – Aftenposten

Andresen takes over the leadership from Ola Mestad and shall sit as leader until May 2019, Ministry of Finance writes in a press release Thursday afternoon.

– I want to thank the outgoing Council for their important efforts and desire the new Council of luck in their work. The composition of the Council ensures that there will still be correct and expertise to carry out the mission in a good way, says Finance Siv Jensen.

Tiedemann-heir Johan H. Andresen jr. is the owner and chairman of Ferd AS. After he took over the family business, the company has sold out completely by the tobacco industry, and is now a pure industrial and investment company with an emphasis on active ownership.



Here is the new Council

New deputy Ethics becomes Hans Christian Bugge, a professor of civil law at the University of Oslo. He has previously worked in the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Finance and now works with national and international environmental law.

These are the last three members of the Ethics Council:

  • Cecilie Hellestveit, lawyer at the International Law and Policy Institute at YWAM
  • Arthur Sletteberg, economist and head of the Norwegian Microfinance Initiative
  • Guro Slettemark, lawyer and Secretary General of Transparency International Norway

Norges Bank has the last word

The Ministry of Finance has also made changes to the guidelines for observation and exclusion from the fund’s investments. From 1 January 2015, Norges Bank, and not the Ministry of Finance, which takes the final decisions on observation and exclusion of companies. The Council will continue to have its own secretariat, which is under the Ministry of Finance.

The changes in the guidelines are the result of a long-term effort to further strengthen the responsible management of the Fund. Emphasis including facilitating better coordination between instruments, voting, dialogue and exclusion of companies, says Jensen in the press release.
