Spending on security checks at Norwegian airports are over 1.2 billion a year. The amount is a sixfold increase in ten years.
At the same period the number of passengers has doubled, writes Aftenposten.
– We feel powerless, says Torbjørn Lothe, who is head of NHO Aerospace and representing airlines SAS, Norwegian and Widerøe. Lothe stated binge new security requirements, which are the cause of the explosion in security costs.
– It seems undeniably a little odd when at some small airports can be several security guards than there are passengers. This is because Norway has agreed to follow a set of rules that are the same, no matter how big the airport, he said. Lothe say it may be appropriate to put into action where one achieves the most risk-reducing effect, but Tarald Johansen, responsible for airport security Avinor believes it will be expensive.
– We have as many airports in Norway as in France. Although it is possible to differentiate something on the scale of control after how big the airport, there is no doubt that this is becoming a very costly business, says Johansen said.
