Facebook get Swedes to race after it became known that the site has misplaced island of Gotland within our borders, specifically Hedmark, in its map feature.
ERROR: Facebooks map feature has placed the Swedish island in Norway. (Photo: Facebook)
It was a few weeks ago that the residents in the small island in the Baltic Sea started to notice that it was that they lived in Norway and not in Sweden on Facebook.
Should help her son get Facebook
Julia Bendelin living in Gotland experienced it including when she helped her son with open a Facebook account.
– The first thing that happened was that it appeared advertising for children in Norway. I just thought “No! We are in the Baltic Sea, far from Norway. “We have been occupied by Norway, says Bendelin to The Guardian .
Worried tourist life
The bug has caused concern for tourism on the island.
– Obviously this a problem for our small business. We live by tourists and do not want them to go to Norway. We want them to come to us. We operate when not with fjords, says Bendelin, who works in an advertising agency in tourism on Gotland.
Editor of the local newspaper Gotlands Allehanda, Ulrica Fransson Ingelmark , is distraught over the situation.
– It is absolutely ridiculous, says Ingelmark to The Guardian.
Waiting for response from Facebook
Mandarva Stensborg, working with PR for Facebook in Sweden, told the newspaper that she was still awaiting answers from Facebook four days after reporting the problem.
– I reported the problem on Thursday, but still have not heard anything. I have not received any information on whether this is a bug or a “bug” or something else, says Sten Borg.
