The airlines are preparing to introduce minimal dimensions for hand luggage on aircraft. It has only one consequence for the rating: You have to fork out more in taxes.

It is the airlines’ interest organization, IATA, which this week has drawn up the new rules as it would recommend airlines to follow.

For many airlines’ part will involve the maximum permissible measure of hand baggage will be reduced by as much as 40 percent compared to the rules Apply today.

Passengers will notice it in the bag:

For those travelers means namely that increasing numbers of small suitcases and luggage trills, which today can taken into the cabin free, must be checked in and paid extra for.

This would then be in line with the airline’s interest to increase earnings.

IATA: – Would make Easier

Global pays people who show up with too large or heavy suitcases billions of dollars in charges to airlines each year.

This income has been sharply increasing, and an important new source of revenue for companies to compensate the drop in ticket sales.

At IATA believes on the contrary that the new common rules would be a relief for those travelers:

-The new provisions will make it easier for the travelers since they do not have to deal with the various airlines’ goal, but get a maximum standard that will be common to all. We know that the current situation can be frustrating for passengers, says Tom Windmuller.

He is vice president for luggage and security in IATA, and think new and common goals on hand baggage will cause the flight will be a better experience for the passengers.

SAS: – positive simplification

About the new rules take effect for SAS, says information director Henrik Edström this Aftenposten:

– This is currently a proposal by IATA and not rules that are implemented. In general we are positive to all changes that make it easier and clearer for customers. This will simplify the journey if one uses several different companies on the same journey. But as far as we know there is no schedule for when this may be implemented, says Edström.

In order to facilitate the enforcement of the new regulations has IATA also work with its own certification for hand luggage.

It is specific about its own brand as luggage manufacturers shall attach to their products to meet the new hand luggage rules.
