Air traffic over the country have increased drastically – Aftenposten

The revenues stemming from the use of Norwegian airspace, and thus also air traffic controllers as pilots planes through the country. This traffic is between ten and 12 percent of the total traffic Avinor handles, and has increased by over 40 percent since 2009.

– Some of our largest customers in the air has no, or very few, ground operations in the country . They have their regular routes, fortified cities on fixed days. Particularly in the airspace south of Stavanger and over Bodø there is much traffic, says CEO of Air Navigation AS, Anders Kirsebom. Air Navigation AS is a subsidiary of Avinor.

Here you can see flight in the world live.

Increased traffic from the Gulf

The Dubai-based Emirates is the fourth largest company in the country in traffic volume, inclusive of flights. The company also has some landings in Norway.

Also, companies like Qatar Airways, Aeroflot and Air India adds almost daily routes its over Norway. According to Avinor’s Gulf-based companies for the majority of the increase in air traffic over Norway.

– Previously, a lot of traffic going through so-called hubs – airports in Europe, Heathrow and Schiphol, where stopovers. Now, several Arab countries created such airports, where traffic from other Asian countries may be stopping. Then ride on to North America added over Norway, says Kirsebom.

– With further economic growth will Asian and Arab airlines probably reside frequently in Norwegian airspace. They follow the northerly air currents when they fly from Asia to the United States, Tokyo to London or from the Arabian Peninsula to the east coast of the United States.

Cheaper than the neighboring countries

The price of the flight is between 5000 and 30 000 depending on the aircraft’s weight and how long it stays in the airspace. The price is lower in Norway compared with our neighboring countries.

– The price pr. service unit is about 51 euro in Norway. In Sweden it is located on 68, and in England over 70 euros. We have had a price trend that has been stable to declining. It puts the airlines appreciate, says Kirsebom.

When the airlines put up routes their they focus on finding short routes, the jet stream they can lie on to minimize fuel use and prices for overflights believes Kirsebom.

When it is not obvious that companies like Norwegian, SAS and Widerø, which are the companies with the most traffic over Norway, will plan trips over their country.

– When Norwegian and SAS flies to Tromso would there have been shorter to fly part of the track over Swedish airspace, but because we have a good price select airlines to fly longer distances because it pays for them, says Kirsebom.

Looks positively on the future

– Many companies choose to add routes its over Norway. We think it is because of low prices and good services. However, it is good capacity over Norway and Scandinavia, compared with Central Europe.

Kirsebom think traffic over Norway will continue to increase.

– This is related to the economy in the world, and that people want to travel. Given travel volumes and forecasts for further development we look positively to the future.
