IEA: Renewable larger than coal – E24

last Year was a turning point for renewable energy, says the IEA, which keeps track of the global energitrender for the OECD countries, in a new report.

Although coal still produces more electricity than the renewable use of energy sources, the total production capacity from the wind and sun gone past the litter, ” says the organization.

It was in the average installed half a million solar panels every day in 2015, according to the IEA. China alone installed two new wind turbines in the hour, and accounted for half of the new vindkraften that was installed globally last year, and 40 per cent of the total new generation capacity in renewable electricity.

We are witnessing a transformation of the global energy market, driven by renewable energy, says IEA chief Fatih Birol.

growth

Renewable energy accounted for over half of all new capacity in power generation in the last year, on a total of 153,000 megawatt, up 15 percent from a year earlier.

this was vindkraften for a record levels on 66.000 megawatts of power and solar cells for 49.000 megawatts. Norwegian vannkraftkapasitet is for comparison 31.000 megawatts, even if the energy sources are not directly comparable as hydropower and coal power normally can produce more hours per year than solar and wind power.

because of The stronger political support in the united STATES, China, India and Mexico oppjusterer the international energy agency its forecasts for the growth of renewable energy sources up to 2021 up by 13 per cent compared with a corresponding forecast a year ago.

the Cost is expected to fall by 25% for solar and 15 percent for land-based wind in the same period, says the IEA.

Want energy security

According to the agency, there are several factors behind the growth, including the political will to reduce carbon emissions and air pollution, as well as a desire by many countries to diversify energitilgangen and increase energy security. Many net importers, including all the countries in the EUROPEAN union, using substantial funds to import fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal, and many want to produce more at home.

The next five years will fornybarveksten continue and increase its share of global electricity generation to 28 percent in 2021 from 23 per cent in the last year, says the IEA. In 2021 expect the agency that the global production from renewable use of energy sources will constitute 7600 terawatt hours, or just over 60 times Norway’s total power generation of about 125 terawatt hours.

“I’m glad to see that last year was a record year for renewable energy and that our forecasts for growth for the next five years is more optimistic,” says Birol.
