the Unemployment rate remained stable in the year, but there are still large regional differences. The unemployment rate has increased in parts of Western norway, while it has gone down in other parts of the country. It now runs a little better in the counties that are affected by the decline in the oil industry and we expect that the unemployment rate overall will go down from next year, says employment and velferdsdirektør Sigrun Vågeng in a press release from Nav.
on average, the unemployment rate remained at three per cent of the workforce in 2016, and it is the same as in 2015. The unemployment rate increased much through 2015, particularly in large parts of Western norway. The unemployment rate has continued to increase on the west coast through the end of 2016, but less than through the previous year.
Adjusted for seasonal fluctuations there were 700 fewer completely available in December, while the sum of the completely free and job seekers who participate in measures (bruttoledigheten) went down with 200 people.
In December, it was registered 78.600 unemployed with Nav, a decrease of 2300 compared with December of last year. The unemployment rate is now at 2.8 percent, down from three per cent in December of last year.
The population was 98.500 persons registered as either unemployed or job-seekers who participate in measures (bruttoledigheten). It is 1600 more than a year ago, and equivalent to 3.6 per cent of the labour force, which is the same level as last year.
Earlier this week, the la Statistics norway (SSB) through the labour force survey (lfs) shows that the 133.000 unemployed in Norway with a ledighetsrate of 4.8 per cent.
the Difference between the Nav and STATISTICS norway’s figures of unemployment is that one applies to those who are registered as unemployed with Nav, while the other is based on surveys conducted by STATISTICS norway
Better than expected
the Analyst Joachim Bernhardsen, Nordea Markets says ledighetstallene was strong and that they provide a picture of that unemployment develops flat.
– Norges Bank saw a rise in the unemployment rate of 500-1000 people, so ledighetstallene was stronger than Norges Bank’s forecast, ” says Bernhardsen to TDN Finans.
Bernhardsen says that Norges Bank has clearly signaled that they will not cut the interest rate, and that the stronger ledighetstall solidifies that we are a good distance away from an interest rate cuts in Norway.
“Less accurate”
DNB Markets believes ledighetstallene was a little stronger than expected, with a decline in bruttoledigheten, while they had expected a further rise, type TDN Finans.
“the Decline comes after a couple of months with the rise and the main image of a pretty lateral development of the registered unemployment rate stands out well. Also, it is a little more uncertainty as to the ledighetstallene in December. The numbers come a little earlier than normal and delayed meldefrister can do that the seasonal adjustment method can be less accurate than in other months,” writes makroøkonom Jeanette Power Ebb in DNB Markets in an update.
Handelsbanken Capital Markets shows that the decrease in the unemployment rate was almost offset by the increase in the number of new measures.
“the central Bank is currently busy with the housing market and small monthly deviations from the projections of the registered unemployment rate will not have a significant effect on monetary policy. On the margin helps desembertallene Norges Bank to lean against the wind, and keep the interest rate higher due to strong boligprisoppgang”, type Handelsbanken-economists in an update.
Regional differences

the Unemployment rate is highest in Rogaland, with 4.5 percent of the workforce, and in Aust-Agder county with 3.5 percent. Sogn and Fjordane and Oppland have the lowest unemployment rate, with respectively 1.6 per cent and 1.8 per cent respectively.
Compared with December of last year, it is California that has the largest increase with 15 per cent more unemployed. Then follow Vestfold and Møre and Romsdal, both with nine percent increase. The greatest decline is found in the Telemark, with 18 per cent fewer available and in Nord-Trøndelag with a 17 percent decrease.

There are 5000 fewer who have been job-seekers in under a half-year compared to last year, at the same time, it is been 2700 more who have been job seekers for more than half a year
