car manufacturer Tesla has agreed with Panasonic to start the joint production of solar cells and modules in Buffalo, New York.
According to Reuters Panasonic will invest more than 256 million dollars (2.2 billion) in the facility.
Panasonic confirms the agreement in a press release. The companies announced in October that they were in discussions about a partnership.
The first production of the solar modules in the Buffalo start to the summer, and production will reach the 1,000 megawatts in 2019, writes the company.
Tesla joined recently together with solcelleselskapet SolarCity, and the company says it will keep SolarCitys earlier promises to create over 1.400 jobs in Buffalo, including more than 500 produksjonsjobber.
Panasonic shall contribute to the investments in Buffalo, and Tesla binds to a long-term purchase agreement with Panasonic.
As part of this agreement, Panasonic will also work together with Tesla to develop next-generation solcelleproduksjon in Fremont, California.
the Companies are already working together on the production of electric cars and batteries for large scale storage of energy by Tesla gigafabrikk in Nevada.
