The new long-haul aircraft to SAS get "belts" – Aftenposten

SAS is about to renew and increase long-haul fleet to pursue even harder on the rapidly growing overseas passenger traffic.

The company has therefore ordered new aircraft Airbus A330 and Airbus A350 EWB, which comes in traffic from the end of the year and in future years. In addition, some of the long route aircraft company in traffic now, brand new interior, new entertainment system and new colors.

The new product is going to be felt in all the clusters, and for those who can afford to travel farthest front – the business class – offering the new aircraft at a fairly new experience for most:

Almost like your car

It is here “bilfølelsen” comes in. For in the front part of the cabin, where the expensive business class seats are, it will not only seats that can be folded down to flat beds. The new seats equipped with three-point safety belts, just like cars.

– Yes, this is a highly unusual solution, says chief editor Jacob Molin site especially for business travelers, Businessclass.no. Molin have traveled on business and first class on all the key airlines in the world.

– The only airline where I have seen a similar belt is on US United Airlines, on their first class. It felt a bit unusual, especially for me who fly a lot. But there was no problem relating to this, nor for comfort. United is the only example I know and it is extremely unusual, says Molin.

Have a special explanation

Henrik Edström is communications manager for SAS and says that the installation of three-point safety harnesses have a very specific purpose:

– Selene used only during takeoff and landing, and allows those traveling in business class can sleep both at takeoff and landing, he said.

He says it mandatory requirement that at takeoff and landing must be on the tracks, and when there is turbulence during the flight. The new belts are adapted to the fact that the new seats makes you completely flat. With three point one can lie despite turbulence which normally means that one must rectify the seatback.

First fly out SAS Airbus A330 Erik the Viking, which is in the final stages of a major rebuilding where the entire cabin renewed. The price of such a ticket is on from 20,000 crowns, trip / return.

– A big boost for SAS

This is the start of SAS’s focus on long-haul fleet where seven existing aircraft rebuilt, while new aircraft enters the autumn of 2015.

The planes are rebuilt continuously , which means that the majority of aircraft have the new type of cabin at the end of 2015. SAS Airbus A330 Erik Viking comes in early to fly frequently between Copenhagen and the USA. Next fly in the series is going to be on the wings in late March and will operate mainly between Oslo / Stockholm and the United States.

– We’re very excited to soon be able to present the new cabin for our customers. This is going to involve a big boost for SAS and give our passengers a whole new travel experience, said Eivind Roald, Executive Vice President Commercial at SAS.
