Expert about anxiety and training

– More and more studies show that physical activity can have a preventive and therapeutic effect on particularly mild and moderate forms of depression , says Ellinor F. Major, Director of Division of Public Health.

The most apparent results come from studies done on physical activity and depression, and that exercise can have a high degree of prevention here.

– The training should have a certain intensity and a certain duration to be preventive or therapeutic, says Major, and refers to official recommendations on 30 minutes of physical activity per day.

Major adds, however, that some studies show a relationship between how much you exercise and the effect it ar.

– The more you exercise, the less depressed you are, says Major.

Start slowly

Major says that when it comes to anxiety disorders it might be a good idea to start training with an acquaintance.

It can also be good to start out slowly, maybe not right at a gym where the physical reactions by anxiety can emerge up: As palpitations, sweating and dizziness.

– Then you can either start by going for a walk, says Major.

Major believes most studies suggest that physical activity is not negative. She believes a healthy lifestyle is beneficial for mental health anyway, and it means to be physically active.
