Statoil found gas – OBI Online

Statoil Petroleum, operator of production license 146, is in the process of completing the drilling of wildcat well 2 / 4-23 S.

The well proved gas / condensate, NPD reports.

The well was drilled about 17 kilometers northeast of the Ekofisk field, just off King Lear (2 / 4-21) in the southern North Sea.

In the primary exploration target well encountered 41 meters of gas / condensate filled sandstone rocks in the Ula formation with moderate reservoir quality. Preliminary estimates of the size of the discovery is between 2.5 and 12 million Sm3 recoverable oil equivalents.

The well encountered also a 20 meter thick gas / condensate column in Farsund Formation, two zones of five meters thick reservoir rocks with moderate / good reservoir quality, as confirmed pressure connection with King Lear discovery. The delimitation of King Lear discovery does not lead to change of the resource estimates.

The well was not formation tested, but extensive data collection and sampling.
