Statoil will drill rig Pioneer laid seven and a half months longer than … – Technical Magazine

There are turbulent times in the oil industry with layoffs, cost cutting and a steadily falling oil prices.

This takes Statoil consequences: report today that the rigs COSL Pioneer, Scarabeo 5 and Songa Trym, which are used for drilling, should be longer in circulation than originally planned.

Taper big money

This goes particularly badly affected Chinese COSL.

rig Pioneer, which according Offshore.no registry costs $ 420,000 a day, suspended namely seven and a half months longer than planned. That it should be in circulation until mid-August next year.

writing course, this represents just over 673 million.

Now albeit COSL paid part of the sum since the rig is under contract, but it is still not known how much this poses.

Overcapacity

Jon Arnt Jacobsen, chief procurement in Statoil, explains extensions that there is overcapacity.

– rig contracts were signed at a time when it was difficult to secure enough rig capacity. Now the activity challenged by lower margins, generally high cost and thus lower profitability. It is therefore more difficult to mature profitable targets, he said in a press release.

Not dissatisfied

Jacobsen emphasizes that they are dissatisfied with the services rig companies deliver.

– I want to emphasize that the suspensions are not related to deliveries to rigs. We are very pleased with the job they have done for us, he said.

– This is nevertheless necessary steps since we have overcapacity of rigs in relation to the missions we prioritize. It’s an unfortunate situation, and we do what we can to minimize the extent of suspensions, Jacobsen says.
