NorYards had to terminate 127 employees – HegnarOnline

– We need them, says yard director Anders Straumsheim, raging against legislation that makes that they must get rid of staff.

Last year had to lay off 180 employees yard. According to regulations the employer may lay off employees for 26 weeks within a period of 18 months. It means that those who were laid off, can not be laid off again before the fall.

– It is therefore madness that we are now being forced to terminate a large amount of employees. We are missing three months, says yard director Anders Straumsheim to Fosna-people.

Straumsheim is evident that the company did not want to denounce someone.

– We need the staff, and they want also not to be dismissed. So who is this rule for? Madness is complete when we have to speak up over a hundred employees because of rules that exist to protect employees. This year we have secured a major contract worth over 700 million, and the hull arrives yard in Rissa in August of next year. We also have options for two vessels, he points out.

Wednesday got 127 employees at the shipyard resignation letter. Steward Øyvind Kimo says they understand the situation.

– There are of course some frustration, but it is primarily geared towards that one has not succeeded in establishing new projects in the intervening period, he said. (© NTB)
