Today was a standalone restaurant Norden Guide published by Michelin. Beforehand, it was expected that the restaurants in cities outside Oslo for the first time could be awarded stars.
Disappointed
But this did not happen.
Four restaurants in Oslo can now adorn themselves with a total of five Michelin stars. Meanwhile, Sweden 22 stars in 19 restaurants spread over three cities, while Denmark has 21 stars spread over two cities (see full list in the facts box).
Michelin awarded chef and presenter Eyvind Hellstrom says to NRK.no that he is disappointed on behalf of several Norwegian restaurants.
– But also on behalf of towns Trondheim, Bergen and Stavanger especially, which I believe is Norway’s best restaurantby.
No Norwegian restaurants outside Oslo is also rewarded with piston Bib Gourmand, which is the level below asterisk.
Motivated
Michelin guide’s international director Michael Ellis rejects to NRK that they have only been to Oslo:
– Visited ye also other cities in Norway, Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim?
– We did, but we did not the level we had hoped for. But it’s probably just a matter of time before it happens. I think that chefs are motivated by Michelin, he said.
NRK has been in contact with what is regarded as two of the best Norwegian restaurants outside Oslo Re-Naa in Stavanger and Lysverket in Bergen. Both doubt that they have had the Michelin inspectors visit.
– Premature
Chef and restaurant reviewer André Blomberg Nygård argued before star ceremony that Michelin had not been at a few restaurants in Bergen. This he stands still by.
– Ellis their statements stand for itself, but nothing suggests that they have been there and it is disappointing, he said.
He still believes that there is extra disappointing if they actually have been there – and that they do not think that level is good enough.
– In this case I and the guide very disagree about what is a good restaurant. And anyway, so it is unreasonable of them to argue that the level does not measure. It’s not Michelin guide their task to talk about what is not good enough, he said.
food writer Andreas Viestad told NTB that he thinks it’s all about budget when employees in the guide do not travel more around in the country.
– Maybe they do not bother or advice. At least they prioritize it not the same way as they would have done in France or Italy, he said.
