on Tuesday afternoon, it is expensive to boil the potatoes in Eastern norway. The power costs almost 1 dollar per. kilowatt-hour (kWh).
Tuesday’s electricity prices hour by hour was determined on the nordic power exchange the day before.
This is nearly three times as much as Tuesday’s power costs when tevannet being cooked around the clock 23 to end the day.
the Average for the whole of Tuesday is slightly below the 50 øre/kWh. Taxes, grid tariffs and the vat comes in addition.
Everything hangs together with everything
There is a long chain of events that leads to the animals potetkoking in the Eastern regions Tuesday:
- Inspectors have found missing in the steel structures in a variety of French nuclear power plants. Production is stopped while the reactors are being investigated.
- European power prices rises when the French produce less nuclear power. German coal fired power plant cranks up production to fill the void.
- But the water level in the Rhine is so low that the river boats with coal can grunnstøte if they go with the full load. the Lasterommene is therefore only half-filled and the freight rates are very high.
- More firing in kullkraftverkene increases the emissions of greenhouse gases. When needed there are several emission quotas and the quota price rises. Producer costs increase.
- All of this contributes to the push up european prices.
- the Cables between the continent and the Nordic region have spare capacity. the Through the cables contracted, therefore the high prices down in Europe over the prices in the Eastern regions. Had the rates in california remained low, would power gone abroad to get better payment. The prices must therefore be about the same.
A meager consolation for the Norwegian potetkokere is that the power for an hour Tuesday afternoon cost the 7,7 money/kWh in France.
Up with Norwegian prices
Norwegian power prices will be determined on the nordic power exchange in the meeting between the French nuclear energy, German coal power and Norwegian hydropower.
In large parts of Norway has the cold arrived the last few days. Electric heaters and it’ll be screwed up and demand rises.
From the beginning of October has børsprisen on the power delivered in california more than doubled.
There has been little rain in the fall. The producers must live on this water throughout the winter. The benefits tappingen throughout the winter to get the best possible profitability, ” says seksjonssjef Vegard Willumsen, Norwegian water resources and energy directorate (NVE).
Warm weather usually means clear weather and sun. Then there will be little in terms of precipitation. September in the year was the warmest since 1900, according to the Norwegian Meteorological institute.
Low inflation
hydropower reservoir levels was 79,1 percent for the entire country the last week in October.
It is the lowest since 2013. Only four times since 2002, the embankment has been lower in this week.
the Cold weather has come unexpectedly early in large parts of the country, and the snow has settled. Seepage is stopped up and the manufacturers have begun to prey on the water.
until the last week in October, the embankment dropped in the four weeks in a row. The path towards low tide in the late winter has started.

Still high prices
In the power market, it traded with contracts for the upcoming winter.
the Price on the stock exchange Nasdaqomx shows that the market expects prices to well over 40 cents/kWh for most of the winter to come.
– This is high, but not abnormal rates. Relatively low rainfall in the Nordic countries and the high prices on the continent are holding up Norwegian expected prices, ” says Willumsen.
Something unexpected happened
the Figures also show that the expected prices in a given month of the winter has risen in the course of the autumn.
Early in October the expected market price in January next year should be around 34 cents/kWh. Now, the expected power price for the month of January around 44 cents/kWh.
Unexpected events in the european electricity market has driven up the expectations of the winter power prices, ” says Willumsen.
All on the same bill
A solace in times of expensive electricity is that it can be eventually to get one bill from the utility and another from netteieren.
the Utility company sits in the driver’s seat and turns to the netteieren.
Here arise two cases, depending on whether netteieren also participate in the competition to supply electricity:
- If netteieren also is kraftleverandør, this power company always had one common invoice to customers who purchase both. If another provider of this website want the same thing, can network owners do not deny this.
- however, If there is a pure network owners that do not deliver power in addition, netteieren oppose the joint billing of its own network and the contractor’s power.
“We expect that all the big suppliers will push on to get to a common invoice,” says senior advisor Ivar Munch Clausen in the NVE.
One invoice in Oslo
In Oslo, and large parts of Akershus, norway, Hafslund network owners. Hafslund also supplies power and such helkunder has always been one invoice.
Thus must Hafslund accept that other strømleverdører in their website bills hafslund’s grid and delivered power on the same invoice.
the company has around 800.000 nettkunder. In all, there are around 2.8 million measuring points for electricity in Norway.
