Want stricter zoning of lusemiddelutslipp – Future in North

Directorate has proposed measures to counteract what they call “negative environmental impacts associated with the anti-lice treatment.”

– The Directorate of Fisheries has submitted a proposal with specific measures that we believe will reduce the negative environmental effects of the anti-lice treatment, said the Director of Fisheries Liv Holmefjord in a press release.

The four proposals are :

  • Prohibition emissions using unapproved combination methods
  • Only allowed to use Chitin synthesis inhibitors on plants that meets best environmental standards.
  • The introduction of the drop zones for the discharge of the treatment water from the well boats.
  • Documents about sea lice treatment is environmentally sound.

According to the directorate background proposal environmental risks usage of lice farms along the coast represents.

– It has especially been a great deal of attention on the use of Chitin synthesis inhibitors and combination of different means and that these are harmful to shrimp, lobster, crab and Other crustaceans near farms where being deloused fishing, says Fisheries press release.
