The company Norden division, MTR Nordic, has been joined by the debate in Norway about the privatization of the Airport Express Train.
– We follow closely the kind of opportunities. Both express train and Oslo Metro is interesting, says CEO Peter Viinapuu in MTR Nordic Dagens Næringsliv.
He said that the Nordic countries, because of the low risk of corruption, as well as deregulation in the transport, is an important Emerging Markets for MTR. He refers to the acquisition of the subway in Stockholm five years ago, and says Oslo Metro is of interest.
– We have discussed with Oslo. In Stockholm we have shown that privatization resulted in increased satisfaction and improved punctuality, says Viinapuu.
Transport Commissioner Guri Melby (V) in Oslo says it is unacceptable to discuss the privatization of public transport in Oslo now.
– The current arrangement was recently adopted by the City Council last fall. Sporveien is in the midst a rationalization program and are protected through 2015. So the city council has said that it will come back with a new assessment after that, says Melby. (© NTB)
