At NHH it hard battle for study places. Last year only one in ten who would study at NHH, offered admission.
Students who admitted achieves return very good grades.
In recent years, about half of students received the top grade A on the final thesis.
Powerful tightening
It will Rector Frøystein Gjesdal end to, writes BT. Now he introduces a new standard, which requires that students must stand strongly out to get A on thesis.
The new grade requirements prepared by National Council for business education, and involves a significant tightening.
– The requirements for an A being sharpened and clarified. Top grade now require that the task can be described as very good and excellent. We believe this will imply that the percentage who receive A goes down, says Gjesdal.
Introduces max-limit
To ensure that the requirements are complied introduces NHH an additional control mechanism.
If more than every third student gets A, college consider master tasks again and if necessary give lower grades.
– If the proportion of A comes over 30%, we have decided that we will see grading once, says Gjesdal.
– Should Clear B
Gjesdal says that generally will be harder to get good grades at NHH. Meanwhile he asks clear requirements for students.
– Most NHH students should be able to achieve a grade of B on the thesis, if they really work hard. It is my personal opinion, said the headmaster.
Students are positive
Magnus Sten is the head of the student union at NHH. He is in favor of the change.
– The change seems sensible. A stricter practice on grade A fairer to the very best students, said Sten.
Meanwhile he asks NHH be clear that the distribution of grades is changed.
– It is important to get forward that this is a technical change, and not the students who have been worse, says student leader.
Not afraid grade competition from BI
BI in Oslo have lower entry requirements than NHH. But here get about half of the students A on thesis.
BT has not received a reply on whether BI will introduce the same requirements as NHH.
– If BI students get better grades, it can make NHH students less attractive in the labor market?
– No. Not if this is communicated well, says Sten.
– We do this regardless of what other colleges had to do, answer Gjesdal.
