Statoil believes peak oil sands initiative was unsuccessful – HegnarOnline

– The potential climate impact of the oil sands project is much clearer now than it was in 2007, when we went into the project, says responsible for Statoil’s global strategy work, John Knight, Dagens Næringsliv.

He thinks about the controversial oil sands project in Canada, which Statoil in September last year, decided to postpone for at least three years.

– Had we known what we know today, I think maybe we had not gone into the project, says Knight .

He is executive vice president and has worked in the Norwegian company since 2002 based in London. Now he works and several experts to hammer out a more ambitious climate strategy for the company.

– Across the board, we have identified five areas, he said.

It is about climate work beyond own value chain, tougher integration of climate in its own portfolio, new technology and seed investment, investment in renewable energy sources and leadership.

– We are already making much, but we must do more to take into account greenhouse gas emissions and climate impacts of our portfolio, he says the newspaper.

The Briton is one of the internal candidates to take over the CEO job in Statoil, but would not comment on this except that he “will take any meaningful role board asking me.” (© NTB)
