More evaders resigned last year – Aftenposten

More evaders resigned last year – Aftenposten

More and more seeking forgiveness from tax director Hans Christian Holte. Last year reported 295 new repentant people with withheld income and wealth.

There is barely 30 per cent more than in 2013. The year before it was only 115 signed up.

– We think it is positive that we ever get more out of the scheme. It has annually been a sharp increase in the number of strikes, says tax director Hans Christian Holte.

Beneficial scheme

Holte see two reasons why an increasing number arises .

– Firstly see many that control in cooperation with other countries has become more efficient. Hidden fortunes are not as safe as before. They realize that the exchange of information with Swiss banks has improved, he said.

– Second, we have a favorable arrangement to volunteer. Those registering will not be penalized in the form of additional tax, and they can do this without their name being known or that they risk police, he said.

Done treated

It takes time to assess the repentant sinners, so the number of new cases and the number granted amnesty during a year is not congruent.

The Tax Administration processes cases and grant amnesty if conditions are met. As part of forgiveness becomes established taxable amount for wealth and income. Last year 226 people were granted amnesty. This is a few more than in 2013 and over 80 percent more than in 2012.

The sums last year was 6.6 billion in increased taxable capital and 280 million in increased taxed income.

Decidedly most in Switzerland

Almost all cases that were processed last year applies hidden wealth and income abroad. Over half of the finished cases involves hidden values in Switzerland.

– Switzerland has traditionally been a country with much secrecy in banks. They have profiled themselves very much to maintain privacy and to protect customers. There has been a service Switzerland has sold to customers in many countries, says Holte.

International pressure has given a different attitude.

– Jungeltelegrafen has gone and Switzerland are no longer seen as just as surely to hide money, he said.

Stable sums

Although the number of taxpayers who are granted amnesty increases, so is the sum of the fixed, new tax bases quite stable. For the three years 2012-2014 show Tax Administration figures:

  • The reported taxable wealth was set at between 6.6 and 8 billion in each of the individual years. With wealth percent of around 1 percent this becomes roughly NOK 70 million in increased tax revenues annually.
  • Adopted taxable income in the scheme was set between 270 and 480 million annually. If one assumes an average tax rate of 35 for this additional income, the increase in taxes, roughly between 95 and 170 million in each of the three years.
  • Inheritance for inheritance tax was set at 4.2 and 6 , 5 billion in 2012 and 2013. Last year, the inheritance tax repealed.

The hidden wealth will be multiplied by the number of years it has been hidden. NOK 1 million hidden in 10 years means NOK 10 million in increased taxable property in the figures above.

Seaman in Switzerland

Holte tells about two examples:

  • A former sailor in years has seen his salary abroad. Gradually money “piled up” on account in Switzerland. He will clean up because of bad conscience and a good scheme to get it done.
  • A widow finds out that the man has pickled down money abroad without her knowing it. She reports into money.
