Now more take up the fight with Posten – OBI Online

– When we started work related to the postal directive was still large letter mail volumes in Norway. It has reversed since the millennium, and now is enough desire to enter into full competition less than 10-15 years ago, said union leader Odd Christian Overland LO-Postkom, trade unions for postal workers, said.

– There is less to earn now than when we started the struggle against competition, he said.

the third EU postal directive allows for free competition in the provision of all letters and parcels, and was implemented in Norway with the new Postal Services Act on 1 January, 2016.

Competition

Secretary Reiner Johannesson in the Ministry of Transport (SD) think it is true that there are fewer players who will compete for letter delivery, but still believes it was important to get directive into Norwegian law.

– we may prevent the development of good ideas if we unlock the market for an actor, he said.

– the new Postal Services Act is all about that we will regulate less, continues Johannesson.

– Postal Services are comprehensive change, but there is no reason why there should be effective competition in the market. There are several players that will compete with the Post Office, says head of business policy Jarle Hammerstadsgate main organization active.

Key Problems

Although the Postal Services Act came into force on January 1, does not contest as it should, says Wood.

Among the players who want to compete for letter delivery, is Norpost. Working on behalf of Norpost contacted the Ministry of Transport and Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority to ensure delivery of the keys to the mailbox system.

Post has for many years managed the keys, but the new law opens the way for other actors also get permission to access to these so-called “zone keys.”

– the competition will not work until the matter is resolved. Ministry of Transport is working to put in place a regulation to ensure delivery of the keys, says Hammerstadsgate.

Competition

– Increased competition in the postal market is important for those who order services. When users can choose between several players are prices lower and services better, says Hammerstadsgate.

Postkom fear increased competition will mean lower postal services.

– When mail volume declines further it will create additional demands to earnings. Then it must cut more and we can get fewer distribution days in the future. The day will come faster and more competitive, said Overland in Postkom.

He added that if one goes away from the unit postage on letters, there is a risk that mail to and from the districts Norway gets a higher cost than to more central areas.

– I do not think the districts could be an argument for not having competition. There will be demand for services in less densely populated areas as well. There is no reason to believe that the services will be any worse, think Hammerstadsgate. (© NTB)
