New York Stock Exchange started the week with a slight fall. Dow Jones ended down 0.12 percent to 18,529.42, while the broader S & amp; P 500 index fell 0.06 percent to 2182.64.
The energy sector fell 0.9 per cent in the wake of the price on the US light crude fell 3.5 percent.
Technology Heavy Nasdaq rose however 0.12 percent to 5,244.60.
turnover was thin in anticipation of Governor Janet Yellen speech in Jackson Hole Friday where it can get signals of an upcoming rate hike.
Pfizer fell 0.1 percent after confirming that the company will buy up biotech company Medivation Inc. for $ 14 billion. The latter rose about 20 percent.
