Economy Professor Jørn Rattsø presents diagnosis on the Norwegian economy. – Aftenbladet.no

Economics Professor Jørn Rattsø at NTNU in Trondheim has been engaged as GP for the Norwegian economy in a few years.

Today he presented productivity its first report.

– Should Norway in the years ahead will continue to be on top in income, we must also be on top when it comes to using labor and capital smarter every year. Reconstruction of the oil industry is largely done, and other industries must now stand for growth, says Rattsø.

He was particularly concerned three sectors: education, business and government investments and reforms.

  • Within education, he pointed that there is play in the production of knowledge, and that research is characterized by mediocrity.
  • Within industry, he pointed to the new and old industries must fill the void that occurs when the oil-related industries getting less to do.
  • Within public investments he believes the biggest problem is poor execution and error projects.

The committee’s task was to try to come up with a proposal for a medicine that could cure the patient cheaper and smarter.

In an interview with Aftenposten today acknowledges that Rattsø backload will counteract some of the solutions proposed by the committee. He therefore recommends “a fit dose political brutality” to achieve structural changes.
