Rema takes Rimi stores before Coop gets them – Bergens Tidende

– We have fished a little in troubled waters, says Rema 1000 Norway boss Tom Christiansen Aftenposten.

Coop has received approval from the Competition Authority to buy ICA Norge 553 food stores. The assumption is that Coop sells 93 of ICA stores further, 43 of them Bunnpris and 50 to Norway Group. Supermarket chain included in ICA Norway and become as part of the acquisition agreement made into Coop stores.

– Fighting on leases

Rema takeover of more than 20 supermarket stores possible by taking over ICA and Rimi stores leases, the newspaper said.

– There are fights about rent contracts constantly. But it is clear that we saw there was some uncertainty around these stores in conjunction with Coop’s acquisition of ICA, Kristiansen says.

Many of rent agreements have a clause in connection with the sale of the company. If a company is sold, says the landlord is free to terminate the contract with the company. It is this Rema has used.

– Not worried

Norway, which owns Kiwi, Menu and Spar, has also received several new leases in this way, according to the newspaper, but Norway Group would not comment on the case.

Bunnpris boss Christian Lykke confirms that he does not get 43 of ICA stores, but only 42, and in a few years he loses any more.

Coop is not concerned that some 20 stores end up with competitor Rema 1000, said communications director Kristin Paus.
