Cheers in Stavanger

There were many smiling faces in Aibel headquarters in Stavanger Tuesday, when Aibel and Statoil signed what is the largest contract on the Norwegian shelf ever, with Prime Minister Erna Solberg as a spectator.

Arne Sigve Nylund, senior vice president for development and production Norway, it seems it was gratifying to allocate such a large contract to a Norwegian supplier.

Where and when the next major contracts in Johan Sverdrup comes, He is a bit more reticent.

– There are still many contracts in the project remains, and there will be more contract awards beyond 2015, except that I will go into detail on stage. And we consider market globally in terms of the next contract, and then not least Norway, he says to TU after the signing.

– What Statoil will emphasize in the next contract awards?

– Expertise, experience, what is delivered earlier recording, and price matters. But when we decide who should get the contracts, then it is an overall rating that determines both commercial and technical conditions. Then not least how providers have delivered on health, safety and environmental previously be important, says Nylund.

Fabrication Contracts

Contract strategy for Sverdrup partners makes it highly likely that top decks to process platform and riser platform ports in Asia.

On behalf of Johan Sverdrup partnership signed namely Statoil end January 2015 contract with Aker Solutions for the engineering and procurement management (EPMA) until the planned production start in 2019.

The contract, worth 4.5 billion crowns, includes engineering and procurement management riser platform deck and processing platform deck.

This means that it is the allocation of pure fabrication contracts that remain on these platform tires, called FC contracts. These awards are increasingly tailored foreign shipyards, than EPC contracts, which includes procurement, construction and additional engineering .

– The foreign shipyards have had a significantly better track record on clean fabrication contracts than on EPC contracts, stated Markus Nævestad, Project Manager at Rystad Energy to TU after Aibel award was announced Tuesday morning.

Oil Service Analyst Tord Augestad Arctic Securities said earlier in the day Technical Magazine that there is probably no question that process and riser platforms ports in Norway.

– As I understand it, these are two fabrication contracts. These are going to go to Asia, and most likely to Samsung in Korea. Statoil will at least not to take the chance to hand out such a prestigious project for China, he said.

– Taking all experiences further

Horror example on construction projects at Asian shipyards Eni’s Goliat, built by Hyundai in South Korea. At present status two years delay, 50 percent cost increase, and not at least three deaths.

Asked about Nylund has figures from Goliat project in mind when the last contracts to be awarded, he says that it is a project operator Eni must answer for.

– And so it is clear that we need to bring that there are also many good deliveries from Asia. I mention Gudrun, I mention Valemon. There must be a balance in it. We bring experience, both the good and the less good, the way forward, says Executive Director.

He emphasizes that it is also important to remember that even if a contract goes to an Asian shipyards, it does not mean that it does not drip on Norwegian suppliers.

– We see that there is a distribution of tasks. On the missions that go to shipyards in Asia, so there has been a Norwegian share of 50 percent, says Nylund.

He will not comment on which yards are prequalified for the last major contracts, nor He will give more details about the fabrication contracts.

– I can not say, unfortunately. It will go into contract strategies I did not have occasion to go into. The contents of the contracts will be announced when it is announced, responds Nylund.

– Eternal optimist

Supplier Entrepreneur IKM, Ståle Kyllingstad, has been one of the foremost critics of contract awards to Asia.

Now I’m delighted with the contract which today is awarded Aibel drilling platform on Johan Sverdrup. He believes this will have major repercussions for the Norwegian supplier.

– This is amazing. I am very satisfied and this will fertilize the entire undergrowth of Norwegian companies. When used eight billion kroner through a Norwegian system, then it is much easier for Norwegian companies to deliver to Sverdrup. This provides great repercussions, says kyllingstad to TU.

– What do you think about the other contracts shall be awarded?

– I am eternal optimist. I think we’ve done so much with brush our level in Norway, and that I think greater emphasis on delivery, HSE and quality.

kyllingstad says that he will not anticipate how contracts riser platform, process platform and living quarters going to end up.

– I’m not so sure that they go to Korea and I take no sorrows in advance. All in all it is a good day, says kyllingstad.
