Lunder will not be Telenor chief – HegnarOnline

Resigning Vimpelcom CEO Jo Lunder admits corruption suspicion in Uzbekistan has given the company a scratch in the paint, but will not talk about the case. He also excludes himself as candidate for the top job in Telenor, writes Dagens Næringsliv.

– I do not for a CEO position now. Regarding Telenor, I must say that Telenor is an amazing success story. Fredrik has done a fantastic job in Telenor, and I have great respect for him. CEO job in Telenor is a great job, but it is meant for someone else. It is not for me, says Lunder said.

– I’ve been 25 years in telecom. Now I will do something else, he points out that after 15 years in key positions Vimpelcom, gives himself as CEO on April 13.

Lunder departure comes as Vimpelcom is under investigation for corruption and bribery of Uzbekistan’s president daughter Gulnara Karimov, but he believes the newspaper said himself that he does not give up “in the middle of the storm.”

– My departure has nothing to do with the investigation to do. It was natural to let someone else lead Vimpelcom further in the stage company enters now, he says, points out that he did not want to comment Usbektistan case.

– We cooperate fully with investigators. As a result of this, we provide information to them, and not to the public, says Lunder to DN.
