Shall ensure the sunken Fedje-submarine – NRK

On behalf of the Norwegian Coastal Administration shall company Ramboll contribute to ensure slope that it torpedoed the boat lies at 150 meters below sea level.

Full of mercury

As soon as the German submarine U-864 hit the seabed in 1945, it became an environmental threat to the ocean at Hordaland Coast. The entire crew of 73 man died in the accident.

Some fifty German submarines went down off the Norwegian coast during World War II, but U-864 had by far the most hazardous cargo.

the consequences of doing nothing with the wreck is that 67 tons of mercury can be dispersed into the sea and entering the food chain.

Fish prohibition

the submarine was discovered off the island Fedje in 2003. Loaded with mercury containers, and on unstable ground, constitutes a major threat to the marine environment around.

A 30,000-square-foot area around the wreckage contaminated by heavy metals.
