* A number of Norwegian companies have, or have had contracts with Petrobras, which is the center of what is called the world’s biggest corruption scandal.
* The reason is that several of Petrobras suppliers must have blown up contracts with oil giant with the goal of paying bribes to both corporate and party loyalists.
This triggered the so-called “Operation Car Wash” in Portuguese “Operação Lava Jato.”
* So far several former directors and politicians have been charged, and also for Petrobras case had major consequences. Tuesday before Easter leave the company until the annual result for 2015, which showed a net loss of NOK 10.2 billion US dollars.
* The corruption of the company has branches high up in politics in the country, and Prime Minister Dilma Rousseff is currently under strong pressure because of alleged links to the case. Rousseff was chairman of Petrobras from 2003 to 2010.
* A poll shows that the government has a record low 10 percent popular support. For Rousseff personally it’s a little better but still weak. 14 percent say they have confidence in her.
* The political crisis in the country was further exacerbated when Rousseff Labour loses coalition partner PMDB earlier before Easter.
