This you are entitled to when the hotel is on strike – Bergens Tidende

Many hotels are taken out on strike from Sunday morning at. 08. Here is what you are entitled to if you do not get checked in.

Here is a simple breakdown:

  • money back if the room is paid in advance.
  • No replacement if the room is only booked and not paid.
  • No compensation for pain and suffering, even though the strike had to ruin your trip or cost you money in other ways.

– you are entitled to get what you paid for. If you have prepaid for a visit at a hotel or a restaurant that is closed because it is affected, you will not do that. Then you can obviously contact them and request that it be dealt with, says communications consultant Ann Hege Skogly Consumer Council for Aftenposten.

She also emphasizes that the strike is not something the individual company can be blamed for.

– there is such a thing could happen, that we must endure. Therefore, you are not entitled to any more, she said.

The strike was a fact when negotiations between the Norwegian Hospitality Association and Federation ended in violation of overtime Saturday mornings. From Sunday morning runs close to 3,500 employees on strike.

Possible to complain to the card company and the Consumer Council

If it is possible, it is possible to arrange the visit displaced. But in many cases is not a good solution, and you can say no to it.

– We encourage people to contact in which they have prepaid for finding a solution. When we anticipate that hotels also understands customers’ rights. Should they have problems, they can complain to us.

If the hotel is unwilling to pay the money back and you’ve prepaid cards, it is also possible to complain the card company. Credit cards, but also Visa, have reimbursement schemes in such cases.

NHO expects it’ll be all right

Jostein Hansen is director of employment policy at NHO tourism and headed employer page forhandlingsdeligasjon settlement that ended strike. He expects the affected hotels set up for guests.

– Some hotels will close now, but most will remain open with a full or reduced operation. To the extent that it goes beyond guests or they are unable to accommodate them, the hotels will be helpful in procuring hotel rooms elsewhere, he said.

He stressed that those unable to use the hotel room they have booked, be entitled to money back – but nothing more than that.

– Strike is called force majeure . Then you are not entitled to any compensation since this is an event now can not be blamed for and therefore not have liability for, he said.

Hansen points out that guests can not only refuse to meet up without to notify, then they lose their rights.

– they must contact the hotel and ask about the agreement can be fulfilled or not, or whether this can be arranged otherwise. The guest can not simply absent.
