In 2012, Yara’s external auditors $ 15 million in “unacceptable payments” from a subsidiary in Switzerland to eastern European suppliers. The names of these vendors have not been known publicly.
Wednesday could however Aftenposten reveal that the Russian fertilizer company Eurochem was one of them. Between 2004 and 2009, Yara have paid two directors where $ 2.6 million in bribes.
Thursday Aftenposten writes that Yara in 2014 ordered what they characterize as a “summary” of bribes from a law office in Netherlands . The review was ordered three months after ØKOKRIM`s investigation of corruption in Yara was terminated.
According to Yara does not give the Dutch review “significant differences” compared to what was presented in the external investigation from 2012.
– to seek ØKOKRIM to share information from (the Dutch report), after the investigation was completed and the undertaking punishment against Yara was imposed, has never been necessary, type communications consultant Kristin Nordal in an email to Aftenposten.
Norwegian authorities have also said that they knew of the bribes that Yara subsidiary Balderton paid to the two Eurochem directors.
