Criticizes Statoil after helicopter crash – NRK

On 2 July last year killed a man in his 30s after falling 600 meters from a helicopter that brought him from the Troll A platform in the North Sea.

At eight o’clock that morning, the man was sick and were picked up by a helicopter ambulance. The time 8:45, when the helicopter was a few kilometers from land, managed to take the patient out of the helicopter. The man was found dead about an hour later.

Fylkeslegen in Rogaland, which will supervise the health conditions offshore, have concluded the routine failure of multiple joints in Statoil.

County of Rogaland mean case shows how a number of errors and omissions, that isolation was not serious, however, led to a very serious incident. The agency asks why Statoil undergo special procedures to prevent a similar occurrence.

  • Health in Statoil did not set aside enough time to capture significant problem in the patient.
  • Nor was set aside enough time to ensure that his condition was stabilized before departure from Troll-A.
  • The procedures intended to ensure proper transport of mentally unstable patients was not sufficient. The crew must be able to intervene if something unexpected happens.
  • Petroleum doctor who gave man the health certificate obtained not enough information.

The county governor has emphasized that the organization should learn from what happened instead of pointing to the health professionals who failed. The reason for this is that the incident was very unexpected.
