Coop warns against email – Nordlys

In recent days, many of Coop’s customers experienced getting an email about the free gift cards from Coop. It is not Coop who sent out this email and those who receive mail warned against touching the links in it.

– Unfortunately there are some who try to exploit our good name and reputation and send out spam mail in our name. If you receive this email please delete it, said Soner Sevin, security manager at Coop Norway Handel. – Our security department, in cooperation with our legal department, has implemented measures to identify who is behind the mail.

Coop Norway has also signed an agreement with NorSIS to raise awareness for IT security with its customers .
– We encourage our customers to visit www.norsis.no and read through the recommendations you find there, says Sevin.

Coop also encourages all its customers to be critical of what links you press on – both on mobile and online.

3 things that may indicate that the email you receive is spam

– the sender’s email address does not come from the company that they claims sender. Often the mail from strange mail addresses, in this case came from including @ byensbeste.no and @ cooppromotions.no

– The mail contains spelling errors. In this case, the mail written in Norwegian, and then it’s harder to see that it is spam. But often contain spam mailer typos or strange words and phrases that might indicate that it is used Google Translate.

– Does the offer too good to be true – it is often it. Most spam mails we see going on free gift card or that you have won a competition they have never participated in.
