520 applicants for 220 summer jobs at Hydro Sunndal – Future Requirements

– The youth begins in earnest to open their eyes to the mainland industry is exciting and forward-looking. It says plant manager at Hydro Sunndal, Eivind Mikalsen. He believes there is reason for the record number of applications.

The search is about 25 percent higher than last year.



More will be apprentices

The plant, which is the county’s apprentice company, called besides the 23 apprenticeships. Also these became even more popular than before.

– We received 158 applications for apprenticeships, which is more than twice as many as in 2015, says the head of HR at Hydro Sunndal, Marit Bratseth.

Bratseth delighted that many names pop up in application stacks several consecutive years.

– Those who has had a summer job with us earlier generally provides good feedback that this is an exciting workplace with diverse challenges and development opportunities. Therefore, we also see that many of those who have had a summer job here earlier seeking back again this year, she says.

In Hydro is not only the company’s plant in Sunndal experiencing upsurge in the number of applicants this year. Total received the Norwegian aluminum plants in the company about 45 per cent more applications for summer jobs this year than last year. The company’s program for graduates from university and college, increased the number of applications by 31 percent, which means that there were as many as 120 applications per advertised position.

To-called internship positions in the company, summer jobs for students at university or college, increased the number of applicants by seven percent compared to last year.

Plant manager Mikalsen think rumored to mainland industry has improved in recent years.

– We in mainland industry might have had a challenge with image ours. I think many have seen in the industry as old-fashioned and as a kind of dying art. So it is gratifying to us that more people are now knocking on the door with us and that they realize that the Norwegian aluminum industry is both modern, technologically advanced, climate efficient and future-oriented, says Mikalsen.
