Businessman suspected of embezzlement of 75 million – OBI Online

At Easter it was announced that the 34-year-old man, who has served on the boards of companies and foundations related to the Christian church, has been arrested on suspicion of embezzlement from a charitable organization, writes Dagens Næringsliv.

According to the newspaper, he has held several leadership positions in companies and organizations that are affiliated with the church.

– he is suspected of fraud, embezzlement and money laundering, writes a spokeswoman for the special unit fiod in an email to the newspaper. Fiod responsible for the investigation of economic crime and tax evasion in the Netherlands and corresponds to the Norwegian ØKOKRIM.

34 -year-old has even worked as an investigator in the same special device which has now arrested him. Also a 21 year old woman has been arrested on suspicion of complicity in the money laundering.

Berit H. Nilsen, press spokesperson in Brunstad Christian Church (BCC), which is the official international name of Smith’s Friends, writes an email that the Dutch foundation not controlled by BCC, but that it has collaborated with BCC. She writes that the 34 year old has not had roles in Norwegian parishes or BCC.

– There are currently no suspicion of criminal offenses in BCC, in companies owned by BCC, or in local churches affiliated with BCC in Norway and abroad. This also includes the Netherlands, writes Nilsen.
