The oil company sued the three unions in the Labour Court after a disagreement arose about how oil platforms to be shut down by a strike. The parties have now agreed on the process in the event of a strike, and Statoil pulls writ of the three unions report Stavanger Aftenblad.

The employer would have fast shutdown, which also allows for faster booting. Statoil would not increase security staffing such a procedure requires. Fast start has a lot to say for earnings. The quick solution is to simply take down the pressure, but let the liquid stand in the system.

The alternative was a shutdown of production, called “cold platform,” where both pressure taken down and the liquid is drained.

– It does not ‘cold’ platform, but a decompressed platform. The company has gotten faster shutdown and startup, as we have received higher security staffing, says Per Steinar Stamnes, head of offshore personnel in Industry Energy in Statoil.
