Rema managers flying to Las Vegas because they were larger than Coop – Aftenposten

Rema managers flying to Las Vegas because they were larger than Coop – Aftenposten

Now, a few days before the merry merchants takes off against the world’s gambling capital of Nevada, the cold shower:

Coop and ICA Norway signs agreement for the cooperative movement to take over all 553 of the Swedish group’s stores in Norway. Vips, so Coop again caught far from the Rema and becomes larger than Trønders by a wide margin – provided that the purchase is approved by the authorities.

– We go primarily to work on how we should be improved, and it is more relevant than ever now that we go from being the second largest to be at least, say Rema boss Ole Robert Reitan told Aftenposten.

He said that the agenda of the meeting will not be affected by the Coop buys Ica, for the journey is primarily a three day long workshop.

– But we can there to party, and love a good party, so we do not let this stop us, says Reitan.

Grundig celebration

It was Rema annual national meeting in August 2013 that the chain manager Ole Robert Reitan could bring the good news to his employees that Rema had finally managed to capture a bigger market share than Coop chain, having lured the trip last year. So he said to Aftenposten while a light board in the background proclaiming: Las Vegas in 2014.

– All gut feeling and all insight suggests that we reach the goal this year. As we have already booked the trip, even though we do not like to take the victory in advance. This is so funny and better than we had dared to believe, said Ole Robert Reitan then.

His father and founder of Rema empire, colonial Major Odd Reitan, was no less moved when he last could note that Rema had now pushed Coop down to third place on the podium.

“My greatest wish”

– My biggest wish is fulfilled, thanks to all who work in Rema, said Chairman and Reitangruppen own Odd Reitan response to the figures.

How happy Reitangruppen was finally passing Coop with regard to market share also described well by how the event should be celebrated:

Not only trip to Las Vagas at the owners expense. No, Pentecost was around 10,000 Rema 1000 employees invited to Oslo to big party at the Telenor Arena to a whopping party.

Coop larger again

The head of Coop Norway, Svein Fanebust can now confirm that Rema group managed to exceed Coop for nine months. He is reluctant to comment on the lavish Rema trip to Las Vegas.

– Soon Reitan takes away all their merchants to Las Vegas to celebrate that Rema was greater than Coop last year. What do you think about that?

– I see it, he says, chuckling with a warm smile before gravity returns.

– Las Vegas trip has never been our motivation to retake 2nd place, says Fanebust.

The war shoulder to shoulder

The two retail chains have for years fought for second place in the grocery market in Norway. Norway group is giant and has been by far the largest in many years. Rema 1000 and Coop are fighting to be grocery chain no. 2.

This competition had until 2013 been in Coop’s favor.

Until Monday 6 October. As announced Coop and ICA Norway that Coop had acquired the Swedish retail giant’s stores in Norway. Trade, which has a price tag of 2.5 billion, changing competition with one blow:

New Coop / Ica / discriminations get a market share of 33.8 percent, while the Rema 1000 is again the industry’s little boy, with 23.1 percent. This is the market situation at last year end. Norway Group is in a class with the largest market share of 39.3 percent.
